Once you try this you'll never by butter from the store again. Once I realized how simple it was it soon became part of my weekly routine! You only need two ingredients and minimal time and equipment.
Ingredients
1 pint of heavy cream (ideally organic)
Salt (optional, to taste)
Equipment Needed
Stand mixer or hand mixer (or NutriBullet- this is the one I use)
Large bowl
Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
Spatula
Storage container

Instructions
Step 1: Whip the Cream
Place the heavy cream into the bowl of your stand mixer or a large bowl if using a hand mixer. Begin mixing at medium speed.
Step 2: Keep Mixing
Initially, the cream will become whipped cream. Continue mixing until it separates into butter and buttermilk, which takes around 10 minutes.
Step 3: Separate the Buttermilk

When the butter forms, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to separate the buttermilk. The buttermilk can be reserved for baking or cooking.
Step 4: Rinse the Butter
Return the butter to a bowl and rinse it under cold water. This removes any leftover buttermilk, which could spoil the butter. Rinse until the water is clear.
Step 5: Add Salt (Optional)
For salted butter, add salt to taste and mix thoroughly.
Step 6: Store the Butter
Move the butter to a container and refrigerate. Homemade butter lasts about a week in the fridge or can be frozen for longer storage.
